Roger Federer visits Malawi for first time

Roger Federer has visited Malawi for the first time, a week after failing to achieve a record eighth Wimbledon title having lost to Novak Djokovic in the finals.

The world number 2 was able to visit M’bwetu Community Based Childcare Centre, one of the many across southern Africa that is helped by the Roger Federer Foundation.

Federer’s mother was born in Gauteng and he has a South African passport as well as Swiss.

The foundation, of which the tennis star is president, helps provide young children with an education in Switzerland as well as Southern Africa.

“I am really impressed by the community here because it’s committed to improving their own village and help their kids for a better future,” said Federer.

“This is my first time in Malawi and this will keep going. We have high goals to ensure the Roger Federer Foundation helps one million children because they are the future of tomorrow.”

The foundation has been going for more than 10 years and has so far helped several students from poor background.
