Ronaldo keeps low profile after disappointing Euro match

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo kept a low profile as the team trained on Sunday (June 19), the morning after a disappointing 0-0 draw against Austria in the group stages of the Euro 2016 soccer tournament.

The captain stayed on the sidelines before heading back inside Portugal’s Marcoussis hub as his team-mates carried on with their training session.

Ricardo Quaresma, singled out by coach Fernando Santos for his poor performance in Saturday’s (June 18) match at the Parc des Princes, also shied away from training, appearing for a few minutes before stepping away from the pitch.

Portugal had 23 goal attempts to Austria’s three, but could not find a breakthrough. Ronaldo missed a penalty in the 79th minute, before scoring an offside goal.

Portugal will go into Wednesday’s (June 22) final group game two points adrift of opponents Hungary.

Victory would guarantee Santos’ side a place in the last 16 of the tournament.
