Cristiano Ronaldo is set to sign a new contract at Real Madrid that will see him stay in the Spanish capital until at least the summer of 2021.

Madrid-based newspaper AS have reported that Ronaldo, who is on holiday in Miami after Portugal’s success at Euro 2016, has been in talks over the phone with Real president Florentino Perez over a new deal.

It is understood that the 31-year-old’s agent Jorge Mendes will meet with Perez and other representatives from the Santiago Bernabeu next week when Ronaldo is back in training.

The Portuguese star was given an extended break by Real manager Zinedine Zidane following his involvement with his home nation at the European Championship in France.

Ronaldo injured his left knee during Portugal’s victory over France in the final and has been recuperating since.

Zidane has called on the club’s supporters to remain patient and allow the forward to get as much rest as possible ahead of his return to the side.
