Running in slippers, Muia wins Thange Fun Race

Musyoki Muia and Catherine Muendi are the winners of the third edition of Thange Fun Race held in Thange Primary School in Kibwezi East, Makueni County.

Muia who ran in slippers said he was happy to have won the race and was looking forward to bigger races while Muendi said she’d prepared well for the contest.

The race organized by Kenya Pipeline Company saw contestants compete in various races among them 10km for men and women, 5km for both gender and 5 km for children.

Others were 3km for the disabled, 100 metres and 200 metres for the elderly.

Winners in the elite youth category pocketed Sh15,000 while first and second runners up received Sh12,000 and Sh9,000 respectively.

The top three in the junior and senior men and women categories got Sh7,000, Sh5,500 and Sh4,000 respectively.

According to John Ngumi, the chairman of KPC, the race is a way of giving back to the Thange Community after an oil spillage that occurred in the area four years ago, affecting several families.

Apart from giving back, Ngumi added this was another way of tapping vast talent in the region.
