League leaders Telkom put up a stellar performance to wallop Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 5-0 in a Kenya Hockey Union Women Premier League clash staged at City Park on Sunday.
The league leaders took the lead in the 12th minute courtesy of Jackline Mwangi. In the 26th minute, JKUAT’s Leslie Bonyo played a foul and was sent outside the pitch for ten minutes, Bonyo’s yellow card awarded the run away leaders a penalty corner that Alice Wanjiru, the goal keeper, capitalized on, awarding them the second goal.
Three minutes later, matters went from bad to worse for the students as Jackline Mwangi shook the net, claiming her a brace of the afternoon.
Telkom had a chance to shake the net immediately after the second half kick off when they were awarded a penalty corner but did not capitalize on it.
The league leaders continued to dominate the turf and the wobble defence of the varsity side made them break through, claiming the fourth goal courtesy of Maureen Okumu’ strike in the 36th minute.
But even then, the four-goal lead was not enough to cool the pressure as the Juja based team simply collapsed, and two minutes later, Lilian Aura scored the fifth goal., to sum up a horrible afternoon for the students.
