Salim first Kenyan to be named Slovak club coach

Former Harambee Stars goalkeeper trainer, Abdul Idd Salim, has been appointed as an assistant coach at Slovakian third-tier side MFK Topvar Topolcany.

The former Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and Simba SC of Tanzania goalkeeping coach signed a one-year renewable deal and he will double up as a goalkeeping coach.

“I’m very happy for this great opportunity and so far so good. The environment is good and the people are so nice and I’m grateful for the chairman of the club for giving me this great opportunity.”

”All this is because of the great work I did with coach Adel Amrouche  whom i worked with during the national team days,” he told Royal Media Radio.

The team is based in the town of Topoľčany and was founded in 1912.

”I really feel at home here already and it’s not the first time to be in this kind of environment in Europe’

“I’m working to get my resident permit next week then I can apply for my UEFA-A goalkeeping licence so that I can be able to get the chance to join a bigger club in Europe.”

Salim has a CAF A, B and C licences with and advance KNVB Certificate and Goalkeeper World Diploma Levels 1, 2 and 3 along with the Tetra Brazil Certificate.

He admitted that prior to his Slovak move he was to return to Stars before Razak Siwa was handed the role under new head coach Stanley Okumbi’s bench.

The club that play at the 12 000-seater Mestsky Stadium are currently 12th on the 18 team log with 17 points after 18 games in a competition led by Veľký Meder with 36 points.
