Sanga hands huge boost to Tanzania

Tanzanian giants Simba Queens have received a massive boost in their quest to clinch this year’s CECAFA title after last season’s top scorer Oppa Clement Sanga joined their camp yesterday.

Queens got off to a flying start in this year’s edition after drubbing PVP 4-1 on Saturday at the Nyayo Stadium but will come up against stiffer opposition with Doves trouncing FAd 5-0 in their opener.

Queens head coach Selemani Makanya believes Oppa’s arrival is a welcome boost ahead of the crunch tie.

“It’s a big boost for my side going to today’s match. Oppa is our premier league top scorer having notched 29 goals and having will boost the morale of the team. She had family issues and was forced to remain behind.

Apart from the grand welcome they received on their arrival in Nairobi, Makanya is optimistic the advanced level of competition is a perfect platform for ambitious players to learn while exposing themselves to new opportunities.

“I want to congratulate CAF and CECAFA for successful planning the tournament. It’s a very big platform for players across the region to nature and showcases their talents across the globe. I will not be surprised to see many of them earning opportunity to play in big clubs.

“I am also happy for the warm reception we received in Nairobi, we are being hosted at the best hotel and for me I have nothing to complain about so far. Our aim is to clinch the tournament so as to play in the inaugural Caf Women Club champions League,” Added Makanya.

In other matches today, Ethiopia’s CBE will face off against Zanzibar’s Generation in the lunchtime fixture while Kenya’s only representative Vihiga Queens will take on South Sudan’s Yei Join Stars who also staged a sensational start by overcoming Generations 2-1 on Sunday.

The winner of the competition will represent the region in the inaugural women CAF Champions League setr for Cairo Egypt in December.
