Savannah all-ladies team for First Lady Half

Local Cement manufacturer, Savannah Cement, has confirmed plans, to field an all-ladies staff team, at the forthcoming third edition of the March 6 First Lady’s Half Marathon at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium.

The team, set to run in the Beyond Zero Campaign flagship fundraising event, is already training at the firm’s manufacturing complex, near Kitengela town.

Speaking, when he confirmed the firm’s participation and Sh1m donation to Beyond Zero Managing Director, Ronald Ndegwa, added that the firm will also enter another staff team.

Human Resource, Process Engineers, Sales and Marketing executives are among the senior staff in the ladies’ team.

“Savannah Cement, will be fielding two teams including an all-ladies squad that has also dedicated itself, to providing peer education on maternal health and related concerns which resonates with the projects objectives” Ndegwa, said.

He added: “Beyond the marathon, the ladies have made a voluntary and conscious decision to continue championing the Beyond Zero cause in their areas of social influence.”

To date, the Beyond Zero Campaign has provided mobile clinics to 36 out of 47 counties in Kenya; with support largely from private sector in form of funds, bio-medical equipment, technical and logistical support.

“We want to lend our helping hand to the Beyond Zero Campaign, in whichever way possible to help reduce mother and child mortality at birth; through provision of quality healthcare,” the managing director underscored.

The all-ladies team will participate in the 10kms race category of the First Lady’s Half Marathon.
