Scottish giants Rangers eyeing Gors Aucho

Gor Mahia midfield general, Khalid Aucho is attracting the interest of Glasgow giants, Rangers who earned promotion back to the Scottish Premier League and an unnamed side from South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.

Aucho joined K’Ogalo from Tusker FC in January 2015 and has since been a key cog in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champion’s midfield and his anticipated exit may save Rwandese international, Abouba Sibomana from departing in the June transfer window.

Sibomana has been forced to the bench by youthful left back Eric ‘Marcello’ Ouma and with the rumoured return of striker Meddie Kagere; Gor must relinquish one of the foreigners to stay within the allowed quota of five before the start of the second leg.

Team Manager, Jolawi Obondo, told Citizen Digital that Kagere could be coming back to the club but also hinted that they may opt for a different foreign striker as the losing finalists from last year’s Cecafa plot to go one better this term.

“All I want to tell you is that we are signing a foreign striker before the June 5, and not specifically Kagere. He was our striker and we know what he can do for the team but the decision rests with the technical bench.

“If Aucho leaves for Scotland or South Africa, then we will automatically sign a foreign striker without having to replace any other foreign players in our squad because we shall be within the limit set by FKF of only five foreign based players,” the official told.

“We are appealing to the FKF President Nick Mwendwa to consider giving K’Ogalo more slots for foreign players because our success at Cecafa will be a credit to his administration,” Obondo added.

Meanwhile Captain Jerim Onyango says the players have adapted to the Brazilian type of play introduced to the team by their new tactician Jose Marcello ‘Ze Maria’ Ferreira.

“Our players were used to long balls but Ze Maria wants us to enjoy the ball and not shy away from the ball any time we have the possession.

“The players who were affected most but have since adopted to the new style of play are our defenders who were used to clearing the ball, an idea the coach is against,” the custodian explained.

Onyango stressed the team is in high spirits and determined to bring home the regional trophy they lost to Tanzania’s Azam FC after losing 2-0 in the final.
