Season jinx broken, Mbungo wants Chemelil slayed

AFC Leopards head coach Andre Casa Mbungo wants his charges to build on last weekend’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) win against Wazito FC, when they take on Chemilil Sugar at Mumias Complex on Sunday.

Leopards will be playing their fourth match of the season and they are targeting their second win after winning one, drawing one and losing one.

First they lost to Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 before sharing spoils with Kariobangi Sharks, 0-0 en route to their 1-0 win over Wazito.

Speaking ahead of the Sunday clash, Mbungo said the win against Wazito, to him, was the turning point and should be indeed be to the entire team.

“The match gave me a good chance to analyse the team in a different perspective. We have been struggling especially in the attack, creating chances and wasting them. That has been the most undoing and I think from the Wazito match we explored more and got something.

“We spent a lot of money on new recruits and the pressure is on me for them to deliver, but they need time to gel with others. It is never too early but certainly results will come,” told Mbungo.

Elsewhere at Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday Tusker will play Sofapaka, as Ulinzi entertain Sony at the Afraha Stadium Nakuru. Kisumu All Stars will square it out with Western Stima as Kariobangi Sharks tackle Mathare United, to complete the Saturday fixtures.

On Sunday three matches will be staged, Zoo Kericho hosting Wazito at Kericho Green Stadium while KCB will tackle Homeboys at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County.

Homeboys and Bandari are on the summit of the league with seven points each, while defending champions Gor Mahia are third with six.

The latter will not be in the KPL action as they entertain Algeria’s USM Alger in the CAF Champions League, while Bandari will be away to Tunisia’s Guardane in CAF Cup return leg fixture.
