Second Team Kenya batch welcomed to Rio

The second Team Kenya group arrived in Brazil on Sunday night ready to take their place in the Rio 2016 Olympics that open on Friday.

On hand at the airport to receive the contingent that had sprinters and race walkers was Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil, Isaac Ochieng,  the National Olympics Committee-Kenya chairman, Dr. Kipchoge Keino and Head of Mission, Stephen arap Soi.

“We are happy to see you in one spirit as you aim to fly the Kenyan flag high, that is also our aim and we wish you all the best. We urge you to maintain high standards of discipline since in an environment like this, its easy to get excited and be distracted.

“We want to hear the Kenyan national anthem played every time you compete,” the envoy added.

On Saturday, Team Kenya was officially welcomed to the Rio Games Olympic Village in a colourful ceremony that witnessed the official hoisting of the Kenyan flag.

The welcome and hoisting of Flag ceremony for every country is a key function in the Games village. The are 207 countries which compete in the Olympic games.

After the welcome ceremony Ochieng addressed the team alongside Kenyans who live team Kenya together with the Diaspora who turned up to support the team during the function.

He assured the team that his office was fully dedicated to give every support to ensure that Kenya wins many medals.
