Senegal overpower Kenyas Morans in Afrobasket

Senegal rallied from a half-time deficit to hit Kenya 69-51 during Friday’s Group B opener of the final round of the Afrobasket qualifiers in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Kenya’s Morans lost the opening quarter 21-18 but led 31-27 at the midway point after a strong second quarter which they claimed 13-6.

After the break, Senegal were simply too strong for their opponents, outfoxing them in every sector to take the third quarter 25-10. They won 17-10 in the final quarter to see out the win.

Senegal’s Ibrahim Faye led the scoring with 19 while Preston Bungei, who plays in Denmark, poured 11 points for Morans.

Kenya returns to court Saturday to tackle Angola in a do or die match before wrapping it off with Mozambique on Sunday.

In the first leg that was held in Kigali, Rwanda in November last year Senegal hammered Kenya 92-54.

The Morans already have one foot into the Afrobasket Championship that will be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
