Setback for Gor as Nizigiyimana ruled out until next season
Dependable defender, Burundian international Karim Nzigyimana will not feature for Gor Mahia until next season, doctors have ruled.
This in essence means that K’Ogalo will navigate their tricky Caf- Confederations group campaigns without the star defender.
According to club deputy secretary general Ronald Ngala, the right-back needs more time to heal. Nizigiyimana tore his tendon last year and did not feature in Gor’s matches at the tail end of last term.
Gor had hoped to welcome the Burundian back to the squad after showing strong recovery progress.
At the same time, Wellington Ochieng who also suffered a knee injury in March is making steady progress and is penciled to return to action next month.
Ngala said Ochieng has healed but the club is taking caution even as they plan to ease him back to action.
“We don’t want to take chances by fielding him at the moment. The team doctor has advised that he be out of intense action till mid next month,” Ngala said.
The Kenyan football giants have an uphill task ahead, from the Super Cup Tournament set to be played at Kasarani Stadium between June 3- 10, pitting four teams from Kenya, three from Tanzania and one from Zanzibar, they also have domestic worries in the league defence as well as the knockout Shield competition.
