Sevens flanker Owira discharged from hospital as Shujaa head to Singapore

Kenya Sevens flanker Arthur Owira has been discharged from hospital and is expected back in Kenya on Thursday.

The Kenya Commercial Bank player sustained an injury in the right femur bone in their last pool match against Zambia in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Following the injury, he was admitted at the Gold Coast University Hospital but was discharged on Tuesday.

“It was just after I had received the ball from kickoff, then, when, I was passing, I was tackled from behind and then I got injured in my right femur bone,” Owira said, recalling his injury nightmare. “I have gone through the surgery and I’ m now on medication and looking forward to travel back to my country on Thursday,”he explained.

Owira is expected to be sidelined for four months and will immediately begin his rehab under a physio.

At the the same time, Shujaa is expected to fly directly to Singapore for the eighth round of HSBC World Rugby Series set for April 28-29 after a horrendous outing at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

Shujaa finished eighth in Australia after losing the seventh playoff  24-28 to Wales.

Kenya is in tough pool’B’ for the Singapore assignment together with USA who are in position six on the log, two points ahead of Innocent Simiyu’s boys who are in seventh with 83 points.

Others are France and England, who sit at position eight 12 points behind Kenya.

Shujaa collected 38 points in Vancouver and Hong Kong where they finished second to Fiji in all the Legs.
