Shabana blow hot and cold but coach Nyaberi insists KPL dream still intact

Fresh from being at the winning end of a five-goal thriller, Shabana FC assistant coach Vincent Nyaberi says the team is focused on finishing their first leg fixtures on a high.

The glamour boys needed a Fred Nyakundi hat trick to overcome a resilient Migori Youth at a fully packed Gusii Stadium thanks to a 3-2 advantage on stoppage time, their first victory in five games.

Nyaberi says the win will boost the confidence of his charges as they prepare to take on FC Talanta in their last fixture in the first leg.

“Our game against Talanta is a must win because it will help us finish the first phase on a winning note,” he told Citizen Digital.

Shabana team manager Elijah Sani is also elated with the victory saying it will motivate the players to work even harder.

“The team has been on a poor form recently and the win was important as it helped the boys gain believe that they can win again.”

The team’s latest triumph saw them jump to ninth on the National Super League log on 24 points level with eight placed Fortune Sacco who have a superior goal difference.

Initially with an ambition of making the cut for the top tier league, their recent dim in form has seen such dreams go up in smoke.

Sani says the players are focused on finishing the first leg strongly a fete that will allow them to attack the second leg with more intent as they aim to make the most of a slim chance of making it to the Premier League a reality.

“All games in the NSL are very competitive regardless of the position of your opponent on the log.

“The second leg will define our season. We understand things are tough but we will train harder to make our dreams come true.

“Our fans believe we belong to the Kenya Premier League. They have always stood by us and we do not intent to disappoint them,” he added.
