Shabana boss quits plunging club into deeper crisis

Crisis-hit Shabana FC plunged into deeper depths of despair on Friday when Evans Kibagendi resigned as the Secretary General after efforts to transfer the team’s ownership to the county governments of Kisii and Nyamira failed.

In quitting his role, Kibagendi who has been the most active official of the cash-strapped former top flight giants from Gusii blamed the county governments of Kisii and Nyamira for reneging on their promise to back the side as it sought a sponsor.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Friday, Kibagendi said the end of his two year service as Secretary General in the club that is desperately fighting to avoid relegation from the National Super League was hastened by lack of effort to save the team from folding altogether.

“The team is in a bad state and it’s not the wish of the office to see players subjected to these conditions and environment. I feel sorry for all that is happening.

“I have tried to bring in some value to the team and I Partnered with the office to ensure that the team got assistance. We have camped in Kisii for three weeks engaging in talks with the County Government to take over the team and I would call a stakeholders’ meeting and handover to new interim leaders,” Kibagendi proclaimed.

“This has not materialised. I will still support the team from outside as a member as I have been doing in small ways though I’m still shocked that the County has neglected their team but thank all who have sacrificed for the team,” he added.

Peter Omwando who is the team’s secretary rued Kibagendi’s exit but said they were still open for a takeover.
