Shabana fall to Bidco in NSL opener

Shabana FC started opened their belated National Super League (NSL) campaign by being blanked 3-0 by visiting Bidco United at Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday.

Anthony Gicho opened the scoring for the visitors in 31st minute after firing home past Shabana keeper, Edwin Otieno inside the 18-yard box.

Nelson Chieta made it 2-0 in the 60th  and Bidco should have sealed the game two minutes later but Otieno saved a Hussein Puzo penalty.

John Njoroge hammered in the final blow to the Gusii based side in the 90th in a rude welcome to the competition as the visitors scooped maximum points.

“The boys played well but they lacked sharpness and lost numerous scoring opportunities, which we are going to work on in future. FKF only issued 11 players with playing cards which did not give us a chance to use most of our players,”  Shabana team manager; Andrew Kanuli said.

“We thank our players since the situation meant they were playing like strangers who have met for the first time. We can now support the team given that we don’t have time,” Evans Kibagendi, the club secretary added.

Bidco coach, Salim Babu was happy with the results saying nothing can stop his boys from clinching the league this season.

Earlier there was confusion when Shabana players did not have their cards which caused a delay.

The former top flight giants play their next game on Wednesday away to Vihiga United in a marathon start to the competition they were re-instated by the Sports Tribunal on appeal after being tossed out by the federation.
