Shabana FC ready for Super League after Sonko sponsorship

Shabana FC is now ready to play in the 2016 Kenya National Super League after it was registered Tuesday.

Nairobi Senator Gidion Mbuvi alias Mike Sonko saved the team from being left out of the league after donating Ksh 70,000 towards the players’ cards and referee’s payments to beat the Tuesday’s deadline.

The team had managed to pay Ksh 40,000 before the Sonko deal.

Speaking after registration, club Secretary Evans Kibagendi, said the first task is over and the players are already in the camp preparing for the league.

“The biggest challenge we are facing as a team is inadequate finances to run the club since we have no sponsor. We need money urgently to run our operations smoothly. Our leaders should follow the example of Sonko and support these teams,” said Kibagendi.

The team is currently training at the Gusii Stadium despite the facility being under maintenance.

The Kisii-based side will face Bidco United on Sunday, May 8th in Awendo, Migori County.

The team has admitted more than ten new members and will unveil a new coach in the due course.

According to Peter Omwando, the club’s Organizing Secretary, the team faces an uphill task since it has seven matches lined up this month.

“We have to justify that we needed to be in the League by putting our best foot forward,” said Omwando.
