Shabana FC to hold trials for new talents

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) hopefuls Shabana FC will hold trials on Friday at Gusii Stadium in a bid to reinforce their ranks ahead of their second leg opener against Nairobi City Stars.

The club finished eleventh in the first leg after an indifferent display and fresh legs will come in handy as they aim to keep their promotion ambitions alive.

The two-day event which will be overseen by the outfit’s technical bench will feature players aged between 18-25 years old mostly drawn from the region.

Club assistant manager Vincent Nyaberi says they are aiming to beef up the squad across all departments.

“The aims of the trials is to strengthen areas we feel the team is weak. We will try to add new blood in defence, holding midfield as well as attacking.

“The team posted mixed results towards the end of the first half of the season majorly due to weak squad depth,” he said.

Shabana is arguably the team in the National Super League (NSL) with the biggest fan base, are desperately eyeing a return to the top tier league after a five-year hiatus and mercurial recruitment will be a massive shot in the arm to their quest.

However, Nyaberi said they will only absorb players who will be primed for the first team set up.

“Second leg will be very crucial and to achieve our dream we should recruit players who can be of our help and so we will not be just recruiting.

“But if we feel a player has a potential to grow his skills we will take them and mould them into what we want,” he added.

The Kisii based team finished position nine on the NSL standings last season in their first outing after they were promoted in 2016.
