Sharks end Stima charge, Vihiga hold Sofapaka

After a flying start to the new Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season, Western Stima were pulled back down to earth when they fell 2-1 at the hands of Kariobangi Sharks at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

It ended their unbeaten start to the campaign with Sharks climbing two places into fifth on the KPL table. Stima went into the break two goals down after early strikes from George Abege and Harrison Mwendwa had put Sharks in the driving seat.

Herbert Kopany pulled one back for the visitors just after the restart but Sharks defended brilliantly to see out the result.

Elsewhere in the Green Stadium of Awendo, hosts Sony Sugar also suffered a similar fate in the hands of Ulinzi Stars with goals from Michael Otieno and Enosh Ochieng in each half getting the job done for the soldiers.

Maxwell Oyango was on target in the first minute of stoppage time to grab the solitary goal for the millers. The win has Ulinzi Stars in the 9th position from 13th on 9 points as Sony remain 7th on 10 points.

In other matches palyed on Sunday afternoon, fans were treated to a one-all draw as hosts Vihiga United shared spoils with Sofapaka FC in a high voltage match at Kakamega’s Bukhungu stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the 68th minute thanks to an Amos Kigadi striker before Umaru Kasumba equalized for Batoto Ba Mungu in stoppage time to the delight of the travelling fans.

The result left both sides level on seven points, Vihiga United occupying 11th position as oppsosed to Sofapaka’s 12th- all this down to the difference in goals scored by both sides.

Elsewhere, visitors Chemelil Sugar wrapped up all the three points against Posta Rangers following their 2-0 win in Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret. Philip Wanjala got the visitors in front in the 44th minute before the millers rubberstamped the result with their second goal 12 minutes to time.

The millers second win of the season gets them to 14th place from 18th on 7 points as the rangers drop one position to 16th on 6 points after registering their fifth loss in the seven opening matches of the season.
