Sharks eyeing top two finish after beating Zoo FC 3-0

Leaders Nzoia United and Nakumatt FC each won their respective National Super League (NSL) fixtures over the weekend as Zoo Kericho FC were hammered 3-0 by Kariobangi Sharks at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.

Three second half goals from Rogers Omondi, Mathew Odongo and Pascal Ogweno dealt Zoo one of their worst defeats of the season, a result that saw them surrender third place to the Nairobi-based club.

“Last week we played three games; against Moyas, FC Talanta and Bidco United and during training the boys had agreed among themselves over this second leg of the season they were going to give their best,” Sharks’ Team Manager, Stephen Otieno told Citizen Digital.

With the win coming just three days after the Sharks saw off FC Talanta 2-1 in their mid-week fixture, Otieno says his charges are keen to break into the top two in order to secure an automatic promotion to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

“Being in the top four is not enough for us. The remaining two slots (for third and fourth place) are not guaranteed. We don’t know whether discussions between Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and KPL will yield any fruits so for now our aim remains finishing within the top two,” Otieno added.

At the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa, Modern Coast Rangers edged further away from the relegation zone and into the fifteenth place after beating Wazito FC 2-1 thanks to goals from Dennis Achieng (19) and Rashid Asuman Benjamin (37).

Nairobi Stima hammered Shabana FC 4-1 to soar into tenth position with 30 points as Shabana’s dreadful form continued.

Nakumatt’s John Njoroge scored the only goal as his side edged Oserian FC 1-0 to cement their place in second spot (51) while Masita Masuta was the hero for leaders Nzoia with a 14th-minute goal against Ligi Ndogo to move to 57 points.
