Sharks fail to conquer Mt. Kenya, Mathare win, as Gor thump Chemelil
Gor Mahia bounced back to winning ways with a priceless 2-0 win over Chemelil Sugar in a Kenyan Premier League match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Nicholas Kipkirui, a signing from Zoo Kericho, gave Gor the all-important goal in the 46th minute, before Boniface Omondi added another to haul Gor’s points tally to 7 from four matches.
In an earlier kick off match at the same venue, Mount Kenya United held Kariobangi Sharks to a 1-1 draw.
Mt. Kenya drew the first blood in the 19th minute through Samuel Ndun’gu but Sharks hauled level five minutes later through Sydney Lokale .
Elsewhere, Zoo Kericho held visiting Bandari to a barren draw as AFC Leopards continued with their new found form beating Posta Rangers 2-0 away, Robinson Kamura scoring two first half penalties to seal the win.
Tusker beat Vihiga United by the same margin, Sydney Ochieng’s brace in 15th and 20th minutes handing the brewers the win at the Ruaraka grounds as Nzoia Sugar fell Ulinzi Stars 2-0 . High-flying Western Stima were held by Sofapaka to a one-all-draw.
Meanwhile, league leaders Mathare United continued with their upsurge after clawing KCB 2-1. Cliff Nyakeya openED the scores for the ‘Slum Boys’ from the spot in the 11th minute before Clifford Alwanga doubled the advantage, five minutes into the break.
KCB’s Chrispinus Onyango scored a consolation deep into the injury time but it was too late to mount a comeback as the win further stretched the lead of the 2008 champions to 13 points at the summit of the league.
