Sharks hold Leopards as Zoo lose at home

AFC Leopards opened their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season with a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks FC as the club’s new head coach Marko Vasiljevic marked his managerial debut in Machakos.

Harrison Nzivo Mwendwa put Sharks ahead in the 16th minute but their lead lasted barely 10 minutes as Leopards captain Robinson Kamura cancelled it out from the spot.

Sharks were reduced to ten men with five minutes left to play after Michael Bodo was sent off for dissent but the visitors held on to claim a point.

In the earlier kick off at the same venue, Sofapaka FC defeated Mount Kenya FC 2-1 as head coach Melis Medo enjoyed a winning return against his former side.

John Avire put Sofapaka in front just before the break, turning in Titus Achesa’s delivery before striker Stephen Waruru doubled the advantage with a second half penalty.

Peter Amani pulled the hosts back in the game when he converted from the spot after goalkeeper Richard Aimo was punished for a foul on Boniface Mukhekhe.

At the Awendo Green Stadium, Sony Sugar held Tusker FC to a 1-1 draw with Enock Agwanda scoring a late penalty to salvage a point after David Juma had put the visitors ahead in the first half.

Ulinzi Stars were stunned 2-0 by Vihiga United at the Bukhungu Stadium thanks to goals from Victor Ademba and Stephen Wakhanya while Zoo Kericho lost 1-0 at home to Nzoia Sugar.
