Sharks maul Gor out of Shield campaign

Kariobangi Sharks pulled an upset on Gor Mahia on Sunday mauling the latter 4-2 on post-match penalties after a 0-0 draw in regular time to bundle K’Ogalo out of the FKF-Shield in a tough contest staged at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

By tossing Gor out, Sharks now proceed to the semi finals joining  AFC Leopards Sofapaka and Ulinzi Stars.

This was the second time Gor is being eliminated on penalties in the same tournament after losing last season to Bandari.

The William Muluhya coached side will now face Ulinzi Stars in the semi finals eyeing this year’s title after losing to AFC leopards in last year’s final.

Earlier on at the same venue, Sofapaka overcame Tusker 2-1 at the same venue to cruise to the semis.

Strikes from the towering Uganda striker Umaru Kasumba and Okware Ezekiel were enough to send the John Baraza coached Sofapaka into the last four, keeping their hopes of silverware this term alive.

Jackson Macharia who has showed a lot of promise for the brewers this term was on the mark for the Robert Matano’s charges but the afternoon belonged to Sofapaka who showed more thirst and hunger closing in and fighting for every ball.

Elsewhere, Posta Rangers were 1-0 winners over Chemelil Sugar in a league match staged at the Chemelil Complex.

Calvin Odongo’s goal in the 61st minute sealed all the points for the mail men.
