Shimba Hills sink Serani to defend Coast title

Juma Ali, Yahya Omar and Juma Mohammed were on target as Shimba Hills sunk Serani 3-0 in football boys to defend their Coast Region title on Saturday.

Coming to the final both sides undefeated, Shimba opened the scoring charts in the seventh minute after a wonder strike from Juma Ali. Five minutes later, Juma Mohammed doubled the lead to make it 2-0 up to the half time whistle.

Seven minutes to stoppage time, Yayha Omar secured the title for his side after tapping in home a lovely cross on the right wing.

Just after the breather, Serani looked the more dangerous side and Shimba had to thank their goalie after he made superb saves to deny the Mombasa based side.

Things were much tougher for Shimba Hills as their front-man Juma Ali was forced out due to injury, to be replaced by Yayha Omar.

Shimba Hills, who have now won the Coast region title in two consecutive years, will represent the region in Nationals games set to be played in Kisumu.

Shimba head coach Ali Mwachaunga hailed his boys heroics, saying that he was looking to gun down Serani.

“They were talking too much in the media but today we have shown them how to play beautiful football. I am just happy because this is a revenge. Let’s celebrate now as we look forward to the National finals.”

However, the tactician may have been handed a major blow as five of his youngsters suffered minor injuries which are yet to be accessed to determine how long they will remain on the sidelines.
