Shivachi backs Leopards to challenge for title next season

AFC Leopards defender Collins Shivachi says the team is hungry for titles and will aim to win the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title next season.

Leopards were sixth on the KPL standings before the season was halted by the coronavirus pandemic and later cancelled and their arch-rivals Gor Mahia FC declared champions.

Shivachi said he feels the team, which finish 10th the previous season, is on the ascendency under coach Anthony Kimani and can mount a challenge for the title next term.

“Our fans are so enthusiastic and you can see they really want us to win trophies. We feel the same way and good backing from sponsors and motivation we can do it,” Shivachi said.

The former Tusker FC right back has also praised the club’s management for supporting the players during a pandemic that has ravaged the economy and forced employers to effect wage cuts and deferrals.

“The chairman together with other officials have really supported us during this trying time for everyone. No player has protested for lack of food or being ejected from their houses over non-payment of rent,” Shivachi added.

Shivachi joined Leopards last year on a three-year contract and says he is enjoying his football at the club.
