Shujaacrash at Las Vegas Sevens

Kenya rugby sevens team Shujaa crashed out of the Main Cup of the Las Vegas Sevens in the fifth round of the HSBC World Series after twin losses to USA and France at Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, USA.

The Paul Murunga coached side crashed 26-10 to USA in their opening Pool B match played  3.20am Saturday, before going down 31-7 to France to dim their hopes of a Main Cup quarter final.

Shujaa will now tackle Argentina in their last pool match at 11.39 pm Kenyan time Saturday.

At the Boyd Stadium, Vincent Onyala scored a try for Shujaa but  it wasn’t enough to take them to the quarter finals losing 31-7 to France. This was after playing impressively but still losing to the Mike Friday coached USA in the opener.

After a narrow-loss to Argentina,  France had the first time out, being in control with seven to go against Kenya.

There was an expectant buzz building in the stands again because France were  out  next and eager to wrap their opening-day with a bang, scoring their second try to make it 12-0.

Vincent Onyola scored a try from  the 22 metre line, which winger Daniel Taabu converted but it wasn’t enough for Shujaa as Stephen Perez produced a  magnificent run to make it 19-7 for France.

After Johnathan Jaugel and Marvin O’Connor tries which Perez converted to take the tally to  31-7 made the game beyond reach for the home side.
