Shujaa crowned Safland 7s champions

In an act of bravery, Kenya’s Shujaa turned tables on South Africa Select(SAS) whipping the latter 19-12 on Saturday evening to bag the Safland 7s title in Namibia.

The SAS had beaten Kenya at the group phase but Shujaa showcased remarkable bravery and courage to take the battle to their enemy’s territory, winning when it mattered.

Shujaa last year clinched second position after they fell to South Africa Select.

Kenya crossed the try line three tries times and two conversions against South Africa’s two tries and one conversion to clinch the title.

Impala Saracens centre Sammy Oliech, phenomenal Sam Muregi and powerhouse Willy Ambaka managed to score a try each for Kenya, while Oliech added the extras for the Will Webster coached side.

Kenya had earlier trampled hosts Namibia Academy 38-0 before seeing off Zambia 31-0 in a one sided game.

The national team jets back next week  to continue with their preparations for the 2017/18 HSBC World Sevens Series opener in Dubai.
