Shujaa downed by Fiji in Hong Kong Sevens opener

The national rugby sevens team Shujaa began their Hong Kong Sevens campaign on a wrong footing after they went down 22-5 to Fiji in Friday’s Pool C opener.

The Shujaa scored one unconverted try through skipper Jeffrey Oluoch against the Cape Town and Hamilton Sevens champions who crossed over the white wash four times and converted once.

Fiji led 17-0 by halftime with tries from Aminiasi Tuimaba, youngster Vilimoni Botitu and Jerry Tuwai with Livai Ikanikoda hitting the conversion.

Shujaa got one from Oluoch before winger Daniel Taabu went on to miss the conversion and it was Fijian regular Sovita Naduva who had the last say, scoring Fiji’s fourth try with the conversion going wide.

Kenya had a different first seven with the inclusion of former skipper Andrew Amonde, Dan Sikuta, Jeff Otieno, Nelson Oyoo who haven’t played this season adding Eden Agero who played in the Dubai and Cape Town Sevens.

Shujaa will face off New Zealand at 7:51 am on Saturday 6th April concluding wit Australia at 11:33 am (EAT).
