Shujaa draw Ireland at Cape Town Sevens

The national rugby sevens team drew 24-24 against Ireland in their third Pool D match in the ongoing HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series (Cape Town Sevens) played at the Cape Town Stadium, South Africa.

Shujaa had already sealed a Main Cup quarter final slot after victories against Samoa (24-19) and Australia (14-07).

Paul Feeney charges scored four tries converting two against Ireland same margin.

Ireland’s Hugo Lennox was the first to score his team’s first try Billy Dardis converting it to make it 07-00 in the second minute but Shujaa’s skipper Andrew Amonde replied with a try in the fourth minute Daniel Taabu converting it to level the scores.

Aaron O’Sullivan made it two tries for Ireland a minute later but Dardis missed the extras, Shujaa’s winger Vincent Onyala scored his team’s second try Taabu converting it to give Kenya a 14-12 lead at half-time.

Feeney brought in Alvin Otieno, Willy Ambaka, Bush Mwale and Johnstone Olindi in the second half but Ireland were again first to score in the second half this time round Jordan Conroy landing between the posts Dardis converting it to give his side a 19-14 lead in the ninth minute.

Two quick tries from Johnstone Olindi and Alvin Otieno who is so far Shujaa’s top try scorer with four tries this campaign helped Kenya to reclaim the lead 24-19 Taabu missing the two conversions.

Conroy scored Ireland fourth try at the furthest right corner, Dardis missing the extras to level the scores 24-24 at full time.
