Shujaa drop to Challenge Trophy at Cape Town Sevens

The national sevens team Shujaa dropped out of contention for the Main Cup after slumping to the a second defeat in as many matches at the ongoing Cape Town Sevens.

The Shujaa had lost 29-12 to England in their Pool C opener and were outclassed 7-38 by Fiji, subsequently getting relegated into the Challenge Trophy quarters.

Fiji’s Alosio Naduva produced a stunning run weaving inside and out down the right before offloading to Meli Derenalagi for a very simple try to give Fijians a 7-0 lead.

Naduva then touched down himself to score unconverted try with Kalione Nasokowho adding another one after a lovely break from Dennis Ombachi but lost possession to give Fiji a 24-0 lead at halftime.

Kenya started from a scrum deep in their half, and Leonard Mugaisi made a good run across the field to put pressure on Fiji.

But they lost it, and Fiji’s break is again so quick for Naduva to score his second try.

Mesulame Kunavula gives an incredible pass to Sevuloni Mocenacagi to score the try.

Fiji got another try from Meli Derenalagi after he was released down the centre tonscore an easy try.

Kenya got their only try after Derenalagi was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock on and Vincent Onyala was instantly released to get Kenya’s first try to end the match 38-7.

Kenya plays France at 6:41 pm (EAT).
