Muregi,Ombasa join Shujaa as team heads to Cape Town

After blowing hot and cold in the Dubai 7’s, Kenya’s Shujaa is headed to South Africa for the second round of IRB World Seven Series to be played on Friday December 9, 2017.

Coach Innocent Simiyu has brought on board Samuel Muregi and Evans Ombasa as replacements for injured Collins Injera and Dennis Ombachi who picked harm string and ankle injuries respectively in the Dubai assignment.

Innocent Simiyu’s men finished seventh in the first leg of the series, the Dubai 7’s ,collecting 10 points after they bowed out in the fifth place semi final after losing 12-19 to Australia.

Shujaa are in pool A in the Cape Town 7’s  alongside the defending champions, South Africa, France and Russia.

It will be the second time Kenya is facing South Africa this season after they were demolished 48-5 in the series opener last weekend in Dubai.

The Oscar Ayodi captained side will play their first pool match against France at 3.27 pm before facing Russia in their second pool match at 6.48 pm on Friday.

Their last pool match will be against South Africa at 10.56 pm, where Kenya will be looking for revenge after their setback in Dubai against the champions who went ahead to win the series by beating New Zealand 24-12.

Kenya started this year’s season brilliantly by outshining Canada 29-15 in Dubai, scoring five tries with two tries converted against Canada’s three unconverted tries.

Shujaa faced the newly crowned champions South Africa in the second pool match but they were mauled 48-5.

They came back to life in their last pool match defeating neighbours Uganda 29-14 to qualify for the main cup quarters where they faced finalists New Zealand, who sent them to the 5th place semifinal after defeating them 14-12.

Eden Agero and Sammy Oliech scored Kenya’s tries with the latter converting his try.

The Innocent Mutiso coached side then fell 12-19 to Australia to end their campaign of the weekend, with Frank Wanyama and Nelson Oyoo scoring the tries, while Sammy Oliech completing one conversion.
