Shujaa join Lionesses in qualifying for Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Shujaa on Saturday joined the Kenya Lionesses in the list of teams that have so far qualified for the Tokyo Olympics that are scheduled to take place from 24th July to 9th August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan after comprehensively seeing off Uganda Cranes 31-00 in the final of Africa Cup in South Africa.

Shujaa made their intentions known from the onset lead by the captain Andrew Amonde who bulldozed his way to the try line carrying two defenders with him.

Amonde’s centre post try was converted by Daniel Taabu. The second try came off a counter attack deep in Shujaa’s half as classical support play between Alvin Otieno, Vincent Onyala, Johnstone Olindi and Daniel Taabu which saw Taabu dot down under the posts and he added the conversion for a 14-0 half time lead.

Before he was substituted, Amonde was at the core of Shujaa’s third try as he wrecked his way past his defenders before he set up Vice Captain Jeffrey Oluoch to land the third try with Taabu’s neat conversion bringing the scores to 21-00.

Shujaa starved their opponents of the ball throughout the match and maximizing on the opportunities by converting the possession into points.

Billy Odhiambo was next on the scoresheet as he danced past his defenders weaving his way down the pitch before setting up Oscar Dennis to land his first of two tries  in the last minutes of the match.

On their way to the final, Shujaa saw off Madagascar 40-14 in the semifinal stage while Uganda Cranes beat Zimbabwe Sables 21-12. Sables who finished third will join Uganda in the Olympics Repechage in June next year.
