Shujaa on verge of 100-point season

Kenya rugby sevens team is on the verge of attaining their season target of 100 points after collecting 10 points in Singapore over the weekend.

Head coach Innocent Simiyu’s charges finished seventh after losing 17-7 to New Zealand in the semi final of the fifth position playoff.

Earlier Kenya was defeated 25-12 by their fellow African South Africa in the quarterfinals of the Main Cup after finishing second in their pool.

Although they lost their pool opener against England 28-19, they needed to change their technical plan to demolish France 34-0 and Las Vegas Champions USA 33-14.

Before the start of the season Shujaas head coach Simiyu said that their target is to attain 10 points per outing which adds up to 100 in a season.

Shujaa rising to seventh place in the log after eight rounds has 93 points with only two rounds of HSBC Rugby Sevens remaining.

Skipper Oscar Ouma led by example giving a sensational performance which enabled him to make it to Singapore dream team for the second time this season.

Kenyas top try scorer Collins Injera made it to the top try scorer board in Singapore with four tries topping together with S cots Robbie Ferguson,Sovita Naduva of Fiji and Spain’s Pol Pla.

He also made it to the top points scorers with 20 points while centre Samuel Oliech attained 18 points.

In France and London, Kenya will face similar Opponents as they did in Singapore after they were pooled alongside England, USA and France to be played on 2nd and 3rd June.

Kenya will land tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8.05 am EAT.
