Shujaa rout Spain, sets semis date with Argentina

Kenya Sevens have set up a date with Argentina in the Challenge Trophy semifinal at the ongoing London Sevens after a 38-0 win over Spain in the quarterfinals stage played at the Twickenham Stadium on Sunday.

After the huge win, the Kenyan boys will now aim at nailing a slot in the final when they go head-to-head with the Argentines at the same venue from 3:20pm.

Kenya dropped to the Challenge Trophy after a dismal performance in the Group ‘C’ that saw them win a single game against France, draw against USA ,and lose to hosts England on day one, finishing a distant third in the group.

In the quarters against the Spaniards, Shujaa got onto the score sheet courtesy of tries by talisman Collins Injera, Kenya Harlequins Willy Ambaka and KCB’s burly man Andrew Amonde, as Eden Agero added two conversions for a 19-0 comfortable lead just before the intervals.

Mwamba RFC duo of Billy Odhiambo and Injera each bagged a double, soon after the break, that were converted by Agustine Lugonzo to hand Shujaa a comfortable 38-0 win.

An infringement by Spain deep in their own half proved costly as Injera sprinted down to hand Shujaa’s last try to complete the rout.
