Shujaa shift focus to Las Vegas after amassing 12 points in Hamilton
Kenya Sevens managed to collect 12 points and a sixth-place finish in the just-concluded Hamilton Sevens in New Zealand.
Shujaa went down to Samoa in their fifth and sixth playoffs to finish at position six. This is, however, an improvement from the first two legs of the HSBC World Seven Series.
In Hamilton, Kenya beat both Samoa and Canada with identical 19-14 margins in pool matches, drew 19-19 with USA, before losing 33-12 to Australia in Cup quarters. They also beat Scotland 33-19 in fifth place semi.
Shujaa qualified for the Cup quarters with an unbeaten record to set up a meeting with Australia who relegated them to the Challenge semis.
Arthur Owira and youngster Samuel Ngethe were the success stories in Samoa but Eden Agero and Sammy Oliech failed again in the kicking duties.
Owira and Ngethe were both on target; with the former scoring two tries while Ngethe put in a try as Shujaa fell to Samoa in the fifth and sixth play-off.
Kenya is currently placed at position seven overall after amassing 35 points in third rounds played at the World Series.
The Innocent Simiyu charges now shift focus to the USA where they will compete at the Las Vegas Sevens from March 3-5 in the fourth round of the series.
