Shujaa shifts focus to Dubai after Safari Sevens heartache

Shujaa head coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga has said his charges will shift focus to Dubai Sevens after finishing second in the just concluded Safari Sevens.

Shujaa failed to march Samurai shoulder-for- shoulder on Sunday at the RFUEA grounds, falling 21-14 to the latter in the final of the Safari Sevens.

The Kenya 7s team is in Pool B for the Dubai Sevens alongside last year’s runners up Fiji, Scotland and France in the opener of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens.

And aware of the tough task that beckons, Murunga has earmarked a quarter final places in the main cup, with the event running from November 29- December 1 at the Sevens Stadium in, Dubai.

Speaking with Citizen Digital, Murunga said: “We haven’t played against our opponents so I can’t know their strength right now but with time we will build a team which will be able to win the series.”

“We will have to manage our team in terms of defence and attack ahead of the series,”Murunga said.

The former Homeboyz coach added that he will maintain the team that played in Safari Sevens albeit with a little beefing with some of the players of the Kenya Moran that finished third in the tournament but ruled out the possibility of including players doing duty with Simbas in the World Cup repechage in Marseille, France.
