Shujaa stumble again at Sydney Sevens

The national sevens team lost their second Pool A match 21-26 against botttom placed Wales on Saturday at the Bankwest Stadium, Sydney.

Paul Feeney’s charges started their Sydney Sevens campaign with a 28-14 loss against Fiji earlier.

Against Wales Shujaa scored three converted tries against their opponents four tries converting three.

Kenya scored their first try through Willy Ambaka after he got an offload from Alvin Otieno scoring the try beside the centre post with winger Daniel Taabu adding the extras to give his team a 7-0 lead in the third minute.

Welsh Will Thomas scored an unconverted try bringing the scores at 7-5 in the fifth minute.

Kenya’s top try scorer in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Collins Injera won the ball in the right wing running all the way to the centre post scoring their second try Taabu converting it to extend their lead to 14-5 in the sixth minute.

Will Jones scored Wales second try in the seventh minute this time James Benjamin adding the extras to make it 14-12.

Pacey Kenyan winger Daniel Taabu scored the third try for Shujaa substitute Johnstone Olindi converting it to make it 21-12 for Shujaa.

Two quick tries from Ben Roach and Luke Treharne who also converted them gave Wales a 26-21 victory at the full time.

Shujaa will play their last Pool A match against Hamilton and Cape Town Sevens champions New Zealand at 5:41 am on Sunday.
