Shujaa to compete at Victoria Falls Sevens

The national rugby sevens team Shujaa will participate at the annual Victoria Falls Sevens in Zimbabwe.

The confirmation comes a week after Shujaa’s impressive run at the sixth stop of their HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Vancouver where they took silver and bagged 19 points.

Shujaa will hope to use their Zimbabwe tour to polish their system of play and work on their weakness areas ahead of the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens in April 6-8.

The tournament will also serve as a timely warm up for the Commonwealth Games and the Sevens World Cup.

Kenya is among eight teams to have confirmed their participation at the event that will run from March 24-25 in Zimbabwe’s resort town of Victoria Falls.

Other teams taking part in the tournament include hosts and defending champions Zimbabwe, Strong contenders Uganda, Zambia who will debut at the Commonwealth against Kenya, Botswana, Lesotho, Spartans and False Bay RFC from South Africa.

Zimbabwe won last year’s edition with a 24-7 Cup final win over Namibia at the same venue.

Head coach Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu is likely to send a less experienced side for the tournament with the senior players exempted due to the busy schedule ahead.

The tournament pools are yet to be released.
