Shujaa up to sixth after Singapore Sevens show

The national rugby sevens team is up one place to sixth in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series following 10 points in Singapore to take their season tally to 93.

The Shujaa lost 17-7 to New Zealand in the fifth place Main Cup semi-final with the All Blacks running in three tries, one of which was converted against Kenya’s sole converted try.

The Kenyans had dropped to the fifth place play-off after going down 24-12 to South Africa in the quarter-finals earlier Sunday.

The loss ended Shujaa’s hopes of reclaiming the Singapore title they won in 2016 as well as snapped their streak of making successive finals appearances.

Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu’s charges will experience a case of deja vu in the next round of the world rugby sevens series after once again being pooled with England, New Zealand and France for the London Sevens in the United Kingdom.

Shujaa will have a month to regroup, restrategize and take stock of their month long tour to maintain the current trajectory that puts the team within touching distance of amassing 100 points.
