Simba SC were forced to go the full distance to see off a resilient Kariobangi Sharks side 3-2 on post-match penalty shootouts after the quarter-finals match had ended in a barren stalemate at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium.

Simba came into the clash as one of only two surviving Tanzanian sides in the Super Cup, along with Singida United who play AFC Leopards on Tuesday at the same venue.

Husssein ‘Tshabalala’ Mohammed and Paul Bukaba squandered their efforts from six yards out but Haruna Niyonzima and Erasto Nyoni converted to leave Jonas Mkude to score the winner for the Tanzanians.

Speaking in a post match interview Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluhya  rued inexperience in his side as the main reason on why they failed to sail through.

“Simba is a very good side when it comes to spot-kicks and I think my boys need a lot of exposure on the same. We gave Simba’s custodian an easy task after our poorly taken penalties. But we live to fight another day,” asserted Muluyha.
