Simba stage cancelled as rains hit Kisumu Rally

Organisers of the KCB Kisumu Rally have cancelled the Simba Stage after the route was rendered impassable by heavy downpour on Thursday.

A bulletin signed by the Clerk of Course; Rohit Bhudia to competitors and crew members said the third and shortest leg of the initial five-stage rally (8.64km) organised by the Equator Motor Club had been chalked off to spark fears torrential rains pounding the country will wreck further havoc.

“Simba, due to adverse weather the road conditions in this stage have deteriorated and thus the stage is cancelled. Refer to alternative routes notes number 4. Time allowed from CS2 Kabonyo 1 to Chemase Service B IN is 1H:25M

“Due to the prevailing rains, the road condition has changed since the roadbook was written, please take extra care,” the bulletin advised participants.

Drivers were further warned that water was flowing over the drift and there was a big hole in the middle at Kabonyo-Mberere stage that will be repeated twice alongside Nucleus.

Scruteenering for the third Kenya National Rally Championships (KNRC) event of the season will be held Friday.
