Simbas fall to Romania in friendly test

The Kenya rugby 15s, Simbas,  fell 36-5 to Romania A in a friendly match played  at the Rugby Stadium, Ghencea Sports Complex in Bucharest on Saturday ahead of their World Cup repechage match against Canada on November 11, 2018.

Simbas found themselves trailing 29-5 at halftime after the home side scored five tries and a penalty with Kenya’s winger Willy Ambaka scoring unconverted try.

Romania added another try in the second half to win 36-5 at full time.

Ian Snook charges selected two teams to play in each half, as he gauged his side ahead of their encounter with the Canadians in the World Cup repechage.

Simbas will fly out of Romania on Wednesday to Marseille hopeful of sealing a slot to the 2019 World  Cup in Japan.

In an interview with Citizen Digital prior to flying to Romania, Snook opined that they’ll be using their build-up to polish on their weak areas moreso on set pieces, scrum, line out, back attack and defence.

The good news though for Snook is the lack  of injuries in his squad ahead of the tough test expected in France in the tourney, where they’ll face off with  Canada, Hong Kong and Germany.

Kenya qualified for the repechage after finishing runners up in the Africa Gold Coast Cup won by Namibia.
