Simbas to resume training for Brazil Test

Kenya Simbas 15s resumes training on Wednesday at Barclays Grounds in Ruaraka ahead of their Test match against Brazil on June 18 in Rio.

This comes days after demolishing Uganda 48-10 in the first leg of Elgon Cup last weekend in Kampala Uganda.

The team is gearing up for the Confederation of Africa Rugby tournament where they will open against Zimbabwe on July 9 in Harare as they seek to reclaim the continental crown they last won 2013.

The team will then battle away against Namibia on their second match on July 16 before concluding with a home match against Uganda on July 30 in what will double as the return leg of the Elgon Cup.

The winner will be declared African champion while the bottom team will be relegated to group B in 2017.

The team is in high morale after winning away from home and according to their coach Jerome Paarwaters they will take their test against Brazil seriously since they are looking forward to improve their rankings in the World Rugby.

“We left a lot of points on the field. It was the first game so I will excuse the guys. It was very physical but I think our defence -even with 14 men (after Mike Okombe’s yellow card) – was outstanding,” the South African boss noted.

“We prepared well knowing we were playing away from home. Whenever I got the ball, I thought of gaining yards for my team, or finishing off whenever I found myself in a position to score.” Darwin Mukidza who was the man of the match in Uganda with three tries, one penalty and four conversions.

Their words were supported by team captain Brian Nyikuli saying, “We took our chances. We were tested in terms of defence but worked hard, denied the Ugandans any points in the second half.”
