Simwa stars as Oilers steamroll Homeboyz, Mean Machine relegated

Kenya Cup newcomers Menengai Oilers produced another magnificent performance in match day 14 edging defending Enterprise champions Homeboyz 26-24 in a tight ‘Menengai derby’ at the RFUEA ground on Saturday.

Gibson Weru charges scored two converted tries and four penalties against the “Deejayz” three converted tries losing their tenth match this season.

The Nakuru based side maintained their eighth position with 31 points while Homeboyz stay ninth with 28 points, missing the playoffs slot.

Oilers Austin Simwa was the man of the match scoring four penalties, a try and a conversion while the former Kenya Sevens rugby international Leon Adongo scored two converted tries for Homeboyz.

Vincent Mwikali scored the second try for Oilers to give them the huge victory, while Max Kangeri scored the third try for Homeboyz but it wasn’t enough to give his side victory at full time.

Oilers host Mwamba RFC in their last Kenya Cup fixture next weekend at the Nakuru showground while Homeboyz play KCB RFC at the Ruaraka ground.

Elsewhere, Henley Du Plessis coached side Kabras Sugar demolished varsity side Strathmore Leos 54-7 to maintain their top position with one match remaining before the season to come to an end.

Second placed KCB coached by Curtis Olago defeated Charles Cardovillis coached side 24-10, Mwamba RFC edging 17th time champions Nondescripts 29-22.

Frank Ndong’s Impala Saracens were also winners beating Mean Machine 25-10 to relegate the varsity side.

At the same time Top Fry Nakuru pushed Nondies out of the playoff position with a 29-26 narrow win against Blak Blad at the Kenyatta University ground.

Kenya Cup ends next weekend.
