Skipper Musa Mohammed backs Gor for 2017 success

Gor Mahia skipper Musa Mohammed has warned rival clubs to expect an emphatic response from the deposed Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions when the new season gets underway.

The defender says the team is targeting a clean sweep in collecting all the available trophies during the oncoming campaign.

“There is a lot of energy and a general positive vibe within the squad. All we want to do this season is to bring the joy for our fans,” Mohammed, now the longest serving member of the current K’Ogalo squad following the retirement of goalkeeper Jerim Onyongo, told Citizen Digital.

He added they bear no regrets from the season they failed in their bid to win an unprecedented fourth league crown when they lost to Tusker FC.

Instead, he says their resolve is to climb back on top and will be testing their readiness against Sudan’s Al Hilal on Sunday with a couple more friendlies lined up for them.

Glamorously, Musa has won every trophy available in the local scene; domestic cup in 2011 and 2012, KPL Top 8 Cup in 2012 and 2015 and KPL titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The 15-time champions have already signed former Azam FC midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza, 2016 KPL Most Valuable Player Kenneth Muguna, prolific goal scorer Jeconiah Uyoga from Technical University of Kenya (TUK), Geoffrey Simiyu from Muhoroni Youth and John Ndirangu who crossed over from rivals AFC Leopards.

Other new acquisitions include midfielder Oliver Maloba who penned a three year contract from relegated side Nairobi City Stars,  midfielder Philemon Otieno, goalkeeper Shaban Odhoji who switched allegiance as a free agent from league rivals Ushuru and Kakamega High student Alpha Onyango who has signed an initial four-year contract with the club.
