Sofapaka cut Gors lead, Bandari hold Mathare

Sofapaka FC reduced Gor Mahia FC lead at the summit of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) to 12 points as they returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Wazito FC in a lunch-hour kick-off at the Camp Toyoyo Grounds.

Two first half goals from Stephen Waruru and Kepha Aswani were enough to hand John Baraza’s men a comfortable win.

Mathare United hit home a late goal to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw against their hosts Bandari on Saturday afternoon at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

William Wadri shot the Dockers to the lead in the 34th minute but Mathare hit back late in the game through Ahmed to earn a point.

The Dockers were awarded a penalty and the Ugandan forward Wadri made no mistake converting the spot kick. Francis Kimanzi’s charges trailed for the better part of the game and only equalizing with only six minutes left on the clock.

Ken Odhiambo’s charges move into fourth to go level on points with AFC Leopards on 32 with Ingwe still to play on Sunday.

The Slum Boys record their fifth draw in six games and go second to tie points with Sofapaka though have a slightly better goal difference.

At the Mumias Sports Complex, Tusker got back to winning ways against Vihiga United. Jackson Macharia scored a brace to hand the Brewers all the three points and move them into ninth on 27 points. It is Robert Matano’s first win in two games having drawn their previous game against Wazito from a winning position.

Chemelil and Nakumatt earned a point each having played to a barren draw at the Chemelil Complex. Charles Odera’s side get only a second draw after a series of loses and remain on 13th position whilst the Retailers jump to 10th.
