Sofapaka deny Samuel Onyango links

Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa has denied that the club is close to completing a deal to sign striker Samuel Onyango from rivals Gor Mahia FC.

Sofapaka have already signed Lawrence Juma from the Kenyan champions and with Onyango having one month to go on his current deal, reports have indicated the Batoto Ba Mungu are keen to land him.

“We are not planning to sign him because we are through with our transfer plans and ready for the new season,” Kalekwa said.

The top flight season is expected to kick off on November 21 pending government approval.

“It’s going to be a very competitive season and there was need to strengthen the squad and improve in areas where we felt we needed some addition. The team is back in full training while maintaining the COVID-19 rules set by the ministry of health and sports.

“We are hopeful that the government will allow football to resume next match,” Kalekwa added.

Sofapaka kick off their season with a home game against KCB then travel away to face Kakamega Homeboyz a week later before hosting Wazito FC, Gor Mahia and Bandari respectively.
