Sofapaka fire salvo to opponents, warn Shield is theirs to lose

Sofapaka have fired a salvo to potential FKF Cup contenders to brace for a fierce battle.

The FKF Shield enters the round of 16 this weekend with the Batoto Ba Mungu taking a trip down to the Coastal city of Mombasa for their match against Bandari and Baraza says team’s goal is to bag the coveted title with an aim of playing in the continental Caf Confederation Cup.

We are out to win the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup and represent the country in the Caf Confederation Cup, we are taking all matches seriously, we were drawn against a solid side Bandari and we are not leaving anything to chance, we are going for the win,” he said.

In the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings, Sofapaka are in position 10 with 31 points from 23 matches.

With the chance of winning a first league title since 2009 very thin, the knockout competition presents their only hope hence all the emphasis.

Elsewhere, Wazito FC are set to host fellow KPL side KCB at Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday while Gor Mahia host Posta Rangers at the same venue.

National Super League side Fortune Sacco will face their rivals Bidco United at Kianyaga Stadium as AFC Leopards face NSL outfit Ushuru FC at Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday.

Ulinzi Stars will have to overcome Migori Youth to progress to the next phase as Kariobangi Sharks battle FC Talanta in Machakos after the AFC Leopards versus Ushuru match.

The final will be held on May 30 and the winner getting a Caf Confederation Cup ticket as well as Sh2 million cash prize.
