Sofapaka raid Gor, make away with prized asset Juma

Sofapaka have made an audacious raid on Kenyan glamour club Gor Mahia prizing away midfield cog Lawrence Juma.

The Batoto ba Mungu have showed remarkable ambition in the transfer market, signing several high-profile players but it is the capture of  free-agent Juma which is seen as a statement of intent.

Juma inked the deal on Friday, ending the long search for his signature by Sofapaka owner Elly Kalekwa and coach John Baraza.

Aware that Juma had just three months left on his deal, the Batoto ba Mungu timed their move to land a decent player, for free.

Juma joined KÓgalo in 2017 from Nzoia Sugar and has, in the past two seasons, been an important pillar for Gor, and is best remembered for scoring the lone-goal in the 5-1 demolition by RS Berkane of Morocco in a CAF Confederations Cup quarterfinals match in the north African country on April 14 last year.

While turning out for the Kenyan champions, Juma’s stock rose exponentially, becoming a Kenyan international.

The John Baraza coached side last won the league title in their debut season in 2009, and are keen to claim the honours again, in the soon-to-begin term.
